It's Never Too Late
More and more adults are discovering the benefits of a new, improved smile, and it's not hard to see why. Advances in technology have made even metal braces more comfortable and discreet, and new treatment methods like Invisalign offer a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth. A new smile is an investment in your best resources, and it lends a boost in confidence, happiness, and self-esteem that radiates through every area of your personal and professional life.
We can move healthy teeth and construct a better smile at any age, but there are two key differences of adult orthodontics that you'll want to be aware of: first, changes in jaw structure can't be accomplished in the same way as in early orthodontics, as the adult jaw has finished developing and solidified. Second, adults are more susceptible to periodontal disease, so we'll need to ensure than any gum disease or gingivitis is completely cleared up before beginning treatment.
Methods of Treatment
While all orthodontic treatments apply a gentle, constant force to move teeth gradually over time, different methods achieve this in different ways. We offer a wide range of treatments to suit different needs and lifestyles, including:
Traditional Metal Braces: This is what most people think of when they hear the word "braces." composed of small metal brackets attached to the front side of teeth with a thin metal archwire running through them, metal braces offer a durable, reliable, and affordable treatment method.
Clear Braces: While these function the same as traditional braces, the brackets are made from a clear composite material that blends in with surrounding teeth. This makes for a discreet, low-visibility form of treatment - but they are more fragile and slightly more expensive that traditional braces.
Invisalign: Invisalign does away with metal brackets and wires altogether, instead using a series of clear, removable plastic trays, called aligners, to straighten teeth. Aligners fit directly onto the dental arch, are virtually invisible when worn, and can be easily popped in and out to eat, drink, brush, and floss. This means almost no one will know you're straightening your teeth, you can still enjoy all your favorite foods, and maintaining oral hygiene is a breeze!
When we finally take your braces off, we know how happy you'll be - but you're not out of the woods yet! Next comes the retention phase, one of the most important parts of treatment. Without a retainer, your teeth will move back to their original positions and undo all of your hard work. When we fit you with your retainer, we'll give you detailed instruction for wearing and caring for it, helping your new smile last you a lifetime!
